Greening Prayers
Each year from September 1 to October 4 (the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi), the Christian family unites to celebrate the Season of Creation in prayer and action to protect our common home. This 2024 Prayer for the Season of Creation – which can be used throughout the September-October period -- was written by the Federation Ecology Committee and includes readings, scripture, prayer, and music. Let us together celebrate the blessings of this season.
On June 8th, you can join millions of global citizens to celebrate World Oceans Day. This year’s special prayer for World Oceans Day was created by the Federation Ecology Committee.
As we prepare to celebrate Earth Day 2024, this year’s theme of ‘Plastics vs. Planet’ unites us all in a commitment to fostering a plastic-free future for generations to come. We invite you to share this prayer for our earth.
As we gather in communion with our global sisters and brothers during the 2024 World Water Day (March 22) —under the United Nation’s theme of “Water for Peace” — we honour the critical role that water plays in the stability and prosperity of the world in this special Ecology Committee World Water Day prayer.

Water is the building block of life… and in most parts of Canada, it’s easy to take water for granted. This year’s WWD prayer - which includes an opening hymn, a water ritual, prayers, readings, and reflection – help us to support the achievement of the UN's Sustainable Development Goal Number 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

For many years, before the arrival of settlers, Indigenous Peoples called our local areas, their home. Ontario is still home to many Indigenous Peoples. Every year on the 22nd of March, World Water Day is observed internationally. It is a UN observance day which started in 1993. World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is all about taking actions to tackle the global water crisis … The theme of World Water Day 2022 is Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible.
